About Us

OOTB fibre artists was founded in 1997. We are a cooperative association of artists passionate about creating innovative, thought provoking works of art, and promoting fibre art through exhibitions, education, and professional development.

Members include machine and hand embroiderers, art quilters, weavers, felters, doll makers, embellishers, silk painters, beaders, dyers, book artists, mixed media and other fibre artists. Although we come from all walks of life and ages, we are drawn together by a love of texture, colour, and creation in an atmosphere of mutual support and friendship.

We have monthly meetings, fibre art workshops and playdates for our members and mount exhibitions in the community.

Monthly Meetings

Meetings are held on the third Monday of each month. The agenda for any given meeting could include:

  • guest artists invited to share their journeys
  • demonstrations by members to share expertise with new and interesting techniques
  • discussions about inspiration, design ideas, critiques, artistic processes and the business of exhibiting and selling art

A members' show and tell and access to the extensive library are a part of every meeting.

Fibre art workshops are hosted once or twice a year for members from a variety of talented artists from across Canada and internationally.

A Playdate is a date with your artistic self. It is an opportunity for our members to gather, practice art and share ideas. Each Playdate starts with a practice exercise led by an OOTB member. The exercise consists of design, creativity and techniques that the Playdate leader uses in his or her art. Participants can choose to do the exercises, or work on their own projects.

Exhibitions provide opportunities for members to exhibit their work, learn the details of organizing and hanging an exhibition, and get exposure for Out of The Box and fibre/textile art in our communities. Some shows also provide a sales venue for members’ art.
