OOTB fibre artists was founded in 1997. We are a cooperative association of artists passionate about creating innovative, thought provoking works of art, and promoting fibre art through exhibitions, education, and professional development.
Members include machine and hand embroiderers, art quilters, weavers, felters, doll makers, embellishers, silk painters, beaders, dyers, book artists, mixed media and other fibre artists. We place emphasis on activities that support participation in the continuing artistic development of our members. Although we come from all walks of life and ages, we are drawn together by a love of texture, colour, and creation in an atmosphere of mutual support and friendship.
We have monthly meetings, fibre art workshops and playdates for our members and mount exhibitions in the community.
Monthly Meetings
Meetings are held on the third Monday of each month. The focus at meetings is on sharing art techniques, design ideas, artistic processes and inspiration, as well as our thoughts on the business and critiquing of our art.
A members show and tell and access to an extensive library are a part of every meeting.
Workshops
Fibre art workshops are hosted once or twice a year for members with a variety of talented artists from across Canada and internationally.
Playdates
Playdates are held six times a year, led by members for members, to learn, share, encourage and get inspired. Spending a day with other fibre artists is a great way for new members to get to know each other and the group.
Exhibitions
Exhibitions provide opportunities for members to exhibit their work, learn the details of organizing and hanging an exhibition, and exposure for Out of The Box and fibre/textile art in our communities. Some shows also provide a sales venue for members’ art.
