Activities

Monthly Meetings

We will continue to meet on the 3rd Monday of every month. We meet in various ways including in-person, Zoom and a hybrid of in-person and Zoom.

Visitor admission is $5, except for special guest presentations, when it is $10.

We have a Members show and tell at every meeting.  'Show' means sharing of fibre related accomplishments. 'Tell' is the sharing of anything that may be of interest to members (shows, workshops, talks).

Program Lineup

  • Monday, April 17 – Let's share our sketchbooks, art journals and other tools we use as fibre artists for inspiration, to capture ideas, to research themes, for planning, to collect reference ideas. Other show & tell is welcome too.
  • Monday, May 15 – Series Challenge Reveal
  • Monday, June 19 - Discover the world of costuming with Loree Tannett and Sandy Goldsmith as they give you a behind-the-scenes look at the steps required for creating both historical costumes and costumes for Orpheus, including the extensive research required, sewing individual clothing items, and putting together outfits.
  • Monday July 17 – Give-Away night and make some Artist Trading Cards – our leader for the evening will be Deborah Guthrie.
  • Monday, August 21 – An Evening of Inspiration – 4:30 – 8:30 pm – Picnic supper, activities designed to inspire ideas and creativity, social time, and more! Membership renewals start.
Location - Burritt's Rapids Community Hall.

Workshops

Fibre art workshops are hosted once or twice a year from a variety of talented artists from across Canada and internationally.

UPCOMING WORKSHOP

  • A one day Paverpol (fabric stiffener) workshop in Almonte at the studio of a local Paverpol instructor.

Playdates

  • Monday, June 12 - Playdate: Deconstruct and Reconstruct: Cut up unfinished work or work that's not working and transform it into something brand new. Kind of like crazy quilting. Use your sewing machine or stitch by hand. This will work for both wall art and for clothing. Get ideas on altering sizes and on how to embellish and enhance our articles of clothing. Work by machine or by hand. Experience how freeing it can be to make that first cut. Deconstructing, reconstructing and repurposing clothing or art into something new can lead to some wonderful surprises.
